Birch juice — extracted from silver birch trees in a process used in traditional Nordic and Korean botany — is high in betulin, betulinic acid, saponins and minerals that have demonstrated hydrating, anti-inflammatory and brightening properties in skin research. In a sun cream formula, birch juice serves as a moisture-delivering base that reduces the dryness effect of some chemical UV filters, while its natural optical brightening properties complement the tone-up effect of the SPF formula without adding the heaviness of a tinted moisturiser.

Using a tone-up sun cream as the daily complexion-evening step

Apply a tone-up sun cream as the final morning step after serum and (if used) lightweight moisturiser. The tone-up effect develops within two to three minutes of application as the optical brighteners distribute across the skin surface — pressing in with fingertips rather than rubbing produces a more even optical effect. On bare-face days, a tone-up SPF provides the appearance of rested, even skin with zero additional complexion product. On makeup days, it functions as an SPF primer that improves the luminosity of foundation applied above it.
